Welcome
to Ashtanga Yoga in Palo Alto.
Ashtanga is a classical style of Hatha yoga which utilizes breath,
movement, and posture as a means for meditation and personal
growth. Our school offers traditional Self-Practice (Mysore
Style), Counted Vinyasa (Led Style), and Technique classes.
Beginners may join anytime.
If you are completely new to yoga or Ashtanga, our Mysore program
is a great way to start. The learning here will be progressive-
the practice will be challenging but not overwhelming.
Your first lesson will include the Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar)
which establish the basic form and flow of the greater series
of postures. This first class will conclude with a brief finishing
sequence and deep relaxation.
Over time, you will be exposed to more of the series of standing,
seated, inverted, and back bending postures as well as yoga
breathing (pranayama), energetic bonds (bandhas), and meditation
(dhyana).
Typically, beginners receive the appropriate time and attention
of the teacher to get started in a safe and intelligent way.
Once you have established your practice, you will be left to
practice with minimal teacher interruption. In this way you
may investigate and discover the magic of Ashtanga on your own.
The
traditional class format called "Mysore Style" offers
many advantages:
- personalized guidance
- progressive learning
- teacher assisted adjustments
